For centuries, the island’s location created opportunities for both legitimate trade and creative ways of avoiding customs duties. Along the route, the guide shares stories of skippers, merchants, fishermen and leisure sailors who all played a part in Ærø’s smuggling history.
This guided walk offers a vivid insight into life on an island where the sea has always opened doors to new opportunities.
