The beach huts in Marstal

At Eriks Hale in Marstal, you’ll find a selection of Ærø’s iconic beach huts – including the most famous of them all: the little red one with a thatched roof.

Just outside Marstal, on the sandy spit of Eriks Hale, stand the iconic, brightly coloured beach huts - a timeless part of Ærø’s cultural heritage. Here, families gather for midsummer bonfires, Easter egg rolling, and sunlit swims, just as they did a hundred years ago.

In October 2023, a violent storm surge struck the area, destroying 15 of the 19 huts, but the process of rebuilding is already well underway. You can read more about the story of the beach huts here: The history of Ærø’s beach houses

Quite simply, no visit to Ærø is complete without a stop at Eriks Hale and its colourful huts.
